untapt unplugged – with Helen Altshuler

We had the great pleasure of having Helen Altshuler, technology leader at Google and former CTO at PeerIQ, drop by for a chat.  Her rare and original insights is all it took to win this equivalently rare and original untapt T shirt!

  • Helen found engineers with a passion for her actual business.
  • Helen finds that when it comes to building a team, especially for a startup, diversity of experience and diversity of background, leads to the best results.

After the interview, Helen added some more insights on her hiring practices:

Startup founders often make the mistake of focusing too much on pedigree, while in tech what matters most is the tech depth and diversity of experience. You can hire a group of people from top schools or companies that can’t work with each other. My secret in building high performing teams is hiring people with very diverse cultural, technical and work background, where everyone has something to learn from each other, be it a new skill or a new perspective.

There are no free lunches.. but there are free T shirts… right here, in New York City. Drop by, share a great tech story, win a T shirt!

Gareth is the COO of untapt. A derivatives markets observer, a hapless poet, a terrible chess player and a Warwick alum. Gareth previously helped CMA successfully exit to CME group, ran a strategy group at S&P and worked at the USD interest rate desk at ICAP. A COO by day. A long lost poet, always.
